Marc Goldwein: The Fed Needs a Helping Hand to Fight Inflation
Marc Goldwein is senior vice president and senior policy director of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. He recently wrote an opinion piece for Barron's, an excerpt of which is below.
Inflation is surging at the fastest rate in 40 years, and current efforts to fight it could throw the country into another recession. The Federal Reserve should do its job and stabilize prices, but it shouldn’t have to do it alone. There’s much the president and Congress can do to temper demand, increase supply, and directly lower prices that can help the central bank get inflation back under control without driving the economy into recession.
