Director/Assistant Director, Health Policy
The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization committed to educating the public about issues that have significant fiscal policy impact. The Committee is made up of some of the nation's leading budget experts including many of the past Chairmen and Directors of the Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, the Government Accountability Office, and the Federal Reserve Board.
The Committee is seeking a Director or Assistant Director, Health Policy to lead or co-manage our health care-related work including our Health Savers Initiative, Medicare Fiscal Solutions project, and Medicaid integrity project. Key tasks include developing new and innovative policy options, estimating potential savings, writing issue briefs, and participating in efforts to disseminate and socialize the options among policymakers.
We are looking for a self-motivated team player with a strong interest in national health policy, particularly as it intersects with federal budget policy.
Primary Responsibilities
- Write policy papers, issue briefs, op-eds, background memos and blog posts
- Lead or co-manage a project to develop, analyze, and publish health savings options
- Lead or co-manage efforts to estimate budgetary and other system savings
- Conduct educational meetings on health policy topics with policymakers and staff
- Help organize the Committee’s annual Health Policy Summit
- Coordinate with project partners
- Evaluate academic literature, economic data, CMS data, relevant government reports, congressional proposals, and other organizational research
- Manage the work of a team of analysts
- Draft and submit grant proposals to expand the Committee’s capacity to monitor, analyze, and explain federal health policy proposals
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
- Extensive experience in health policy (minimum 7 years for Assistant Director; 10 years for Director), knowledge of budgetary policy and the legislative process, and familiarity with CBO cost estimates and related reports
- Proven quantitative, analytical, and research skills
- Experience conducting or managing advanced data analysis projects
- Ability to work in fast-paced team environment
- Strong writing skills, especially the ability to communicate policy ideas and legislative proposals concisely and effectively to a diverse range of audiences
- A graduate degree in economics, public policy, or a related field is preferred

Salary: $95,000 to $160,000 with generous benefits package including health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance; 403(b) contribution; and paid time off.
