The Budget Resolution: Everything You Were Too Afraid to Ask
As the Senate prepares to vote on an updated budget resolution, many questions remain – especially with dueling reconciliation instructions from the House and Senate in play.
On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget hosted a virtual briefing, "The Budget Resolution: Everything You Were Too Afraid to Ask," breaking down the latest developments, outlining the budgetary and economic implications, and answering audience questions.
The event featured CRFB's Senior Vice President and Senior Policy Director Marc Goldwein and Senior Director of Legislative Strategy Adam Shifriss.
Just prior to the event, the Senate released its draft concurrent budget resolution, which – according to press reports and an early analysis of the bill – would allow for up to $5.8 trillion in additional primary deficits through 2034 while papering over the cost of upcoming tax cut extensions through a "current policy baseline." Goldwein and Shifriss offered timely analysis of the bill and broader context for the budget resolution.
