Budget 101: An Overview of the Federal Budget
On October 16 and 22, 2024, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget hosted Budget 101: An Intern’s Guide to the Federal Budget.
Specifically created for interns, these briefings sought to engage, educate, and inspire the next generation of leaders in fiscal policy. More than 95 interns from Capitol Hill offices, federal agencies, and various D.C.-based think tanks participated. Each session kicks off with an introduction to the Committee’s mission and work, before delving into the complexities of the federal budget.
During the presentation attendees learn about the basic elements of federal spending, debt, deficits, Social Security. Afterwards, they have an opportunity to engage in a conversation with Committee staff about the fiscal challenges facing our nation and ask questions. Future Budget 101sessions are currently being planned for late Spring 2025.
