Statement by Maya MacGuineas on the Passing of Former Senator George Voinovich

I am stunned and deeply saddened by the loss of Senator George Voinovich, a true friend and great mentor to all of us here at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and the Campaign to Fix the Debt.
 
The nation is fortunate to have had Senator Voinovich devote so much of his work to pushing the country to be more fiscally responsible – both in his career in politics and as a member of our board of directors.  He was deeply committed to the pursuit of fiscal responsibility, brimming with ideas on how to make an impact, and always willing to devote his time and energy to the cause. We will miss his courage, relentlessness, and kindness, and we are proud to have had the opportunity to work so closely with him.
 
We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Janet, and their entire family during this difficult time. May they find some comfort knowing that Senator Voinovich fought the good fight, he finished the race, and he kept the faith.
