Giving Tuesday
In 2024, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget sought to educate and engage the public, policymakers, and the media about the major fiscal issues facing the nation from Congressional funding deadlines to the looming insolvency of our nation’s trust funds and the debate over tax and fiscal policy expirations next year. Our US Budget Watch 2024 project was successful in bringing transparency and accountability to the presidential campaign by analyzing the major candidates’ agendas, with high-profile citations in presidential debates, news stories, television interviews, and questions asked to the candidates.
Previous contributions have been crucial to the success of this work and have led to an array of accomplishments this year at the Committee. For example, we:
- Published 158 analyses, including 20 papers;
- Participated in over 275 meetings on Capitol Hill with Members and senior staff;
- Launched our Build Your Own Tax Extensions tool
- Hosted multiple overflow events: When the TCJA Expires: A Tax Policy Summit, Fiscal Heros, and Budget Bash with over 750 attending in total. Additionally, we also held multiple virtual events with policymakers and experts on timely topics;
- Were cited more than 25,000 times by thousands of unique outlets, including CNBC, CNN, The Economist, Fox News, and The Washington Post.
With the election now behind us, we are beginning to look at what 2025 will bring. It will certainly be an eventful year for fiscal issues, with the PAYGO scorecard, debt ceiling, and Tax Cut and Jobs Act deadlines all looming.
