Fix the Debt at Day 1 of the DNC

Day 1 in Charlotte at the Democratic National Convention was an exciting one, although it was a very wet one. The heavy rain did not hold back the convention itself or the Fix the Debt team.

Several speakers at last night's convention touched briefly on fiscal issues, with many of the speakers supporting increasing taxes on the wealthy along with making investments in things like education and infrastructure. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, Secretary of HHS Kathleen Sebelius, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and First Lady Michelle Obama all spoke on the first major night of the convention. San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro delivered the keynote address, telling his personal story and touting investments in education.

The Fix the Debt team braved the rainy weather and talked to convention goers just like they did last week in Tampa. The team had a great time talking to folks during the hustle and bustle of the day about why the debt is important to them and what we need to do to fix it. The interactions have only reinforced the view that the vast majority Americans, regardless of political party, agree that fixing the national debt needs to be a top issue and lawmakers need to work together to get it done.
