Experts Get Specific for New York Times
Yesterday, in the pages of the New York Times, CRFB President Maya MacGuineas joined 15 other experts in proposing how one might begin to cut the federal budget deficit. Contributors spanned the ideological spectrum, with their ideas including raising the retirement age, medical liability reform, new types of taxes and tax reform, and defense spending cuts.
CRRB has long urged people to put their ideas out there so we can begin the difficult task of getting our federal budget back in shape. In our “Let’s Get Specific” series, we propose budgetary changes for tax expenditures, health care, and Social Security, with more to come. MacGuineas also recently joined Bill Galston of the Brookings Institution, penning a more detailed plan with the twin goals of stabilizing the size of the federal debt and promoting economic growth.
Please take some time and share your thoughts in the comments section for specific ways to get the deficit and debt down to more sustainable levels.
