Statement on the Confirmation of Janet Yellen as Treasury Secretary
For Immediate Release
Former Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet Yellen, who had been serving on the board of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, has been confirmed by the Senate to serve as Treasury Secretary to President Joe Biden. Below is a statement from Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget:
Given her impressive record heading up the Federal Reserve and Council of Economic Advisers, Janet Yellen is uniquely qualified to lead the Department of the Treasury and we congratulate her on the well-deserved confirmation.
With COVID cases spiking and the economy still vulnerable, we need leaders who understand how to best oversee our nation’s finances and guide us through these unprecedented fiscal challenges. Yellen fits this need perfectly.
Our board of directors is a bipartisan group with a wide range of views on how to responsibly manage the federal budget. We’ll miss her insights and wisdom but know she’ll handle this job admirably even in these difficult times.
